Widely hailed as the greatest small swing group in history, the Benny Goodman Sextet set a standard that few have ever approached — until now. After Midnight doesn’t just honor that legacy… we embody it.

Our sound is a bold, sophisticated evolution of the Sextet’s iconic style: the same white‑hot energy, the same electrifying interplay, the same breathtaking virtuosity — all delivered with a polished, vintage elegance that feels both timeless and thrillingly alive. After Midnight isn’t just a swing band — we’re a living, breathing celebration of America’s greatest musical era. Our repertoire spans the full spectrum of classic swing and small‑group jazz, drawing from the legendary catalogs of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Lionel Hampton, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and more. These are the songs that defined a generation, and we bring them roaring back to life with authenticity, fire, and finesse.

But our story doesn’t stop with the classics. We also embrace the modern swing revival, performing the irresistible hits made famous by Diana Krall, Michael Bublé, and Harry Connick Jr. And because After Midnight has carved out its own place in the jazz world, we proudly feature original compositions and even custom‑written works created specifically for our band — music you won’t hear anywhere else.

Our instrumentation is truly one‑of‑a‑kind:
Clarinet, Vibraphone, Piano, Bass, Guitar, and Drums — a lineup inspired by the iconic small groups of the swing era, yet almost unheard of today. The vibraphone alone sets us apart; its shimmering, bell‑like tone and built‑in vibrato give our sound a warmth and sparkle that audiences instantly recognize as uniquely After Midnight.

Over the years, we’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with some of the finest vocalists in the region — extraordinary artists like Lannie Garrett, Rekha Ohal, Jodi Renee, Wende Harston, Lisa Bell, Deejha Marie, and Joni Janak. Our history even includes special performances with actress Lea Thompson and her daughter Madelyn Deutch, adding another layer of star‑studded charm to our story.

After Midnight played for my wedding in May 2021 after rescheduling from February of 2020 due to Covid. They are incredibly professional/organized as well as excellent musicians.

Roger was always super prompt and friendly with his email responses and when we had to postpone our wedding was more than happy to accommodate. The band took my MANY father/daughter song requests in stride and played everything perfectly on the big day.

As a professional musician myself, the most important thing to me was to have great music at my wedding. I scoured the internet, talked to many friends, and after listening to just a few recordings of After Midnight, I knew they were the best band in town.

What I found in my search is that while most wedding/cover bands understand the requirements of playing  a wedding reception, they aren’t necessarily full-time established musicians (so the quality of the music suffers). On the other hand, you can go with a group of full-time established musicians, but they may not understand how to emcee a wedding reception. After Midnight is a jazz band that knows how to do weddings, so in my opinion, the best of all worlds. I am so grateful that they made my wedding day so special.

The groups, the weather , the music were super. We reviewed the Comment Cards from the attendees and After Midnight was the big winner!!! So What’s With The Name

“After Midnight”?

Nothing, really. An advertising friend suggested lots of names, and that’s the one that stuck. No, it has nothing to do with the Monk tune ‘Round Midnight. And no, we don’t ever play the Eric Clapton tune called After Midnight (actually, it’s written by JJ Cale). It just sounded cool, kind of like us! Besides, it’s better than the “Roger Campbell Sextet”. Just try not to confuse us with other adult entertainment on the net ;-).
