Roger Campbell - Clarinet & Leader


 
Roger started Clarinet at 10, studying classical music under Jim Masciarelli.  Originally from Colorado Springs, he earned multiple music scholarships to study at the University of Colorado in Boulder.  There he learned from Clarinet great Joe Lukasik.  While in college, he formed the Pearl Street Jazz Band, a Dixieland band that toured nationally and recorded 4 albums over 15 years.  During this time, he toured Germany with the UCD Claimjumpers, playing festivals and clubs in Bavaria.  He was also fortunate to take lessons from world-renowned Clarinetist Ken Peplowski.

Roger has appeared with numerous popular jazz bands.  He was the Clarinetist with the Queen City Jazz Band for about 5 years recording 3 albums with this popular group.  He was with the Fred Moldenhauer Sextet for some 10 years, playing swing music from the Benny Goodman Sextet.  He has also worked with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the Climax Jazz Band, Gypsy Swing Revue, and the Spicy Pickles. 

He has shared the stage with Jeff Barnhart, Allan Vache, Eddie Erickson, Dr. Michel White, Steve Yocum, Solomon Douglas, Gordon Webster, Bob Havens, Bob French, Joel Simpson, Duke Heitger, Lannie Garrett, Paul Romaine, Ken Walker, Bijou Barbosa, and many other jazz greats.

His career includes performances at dozens of jazz festivals throughout the US and Europe including Sacramento, Medford, Clearwater, Sun Valley, Davenport, Milwaukee, Scottsdale, and Munich.

Roger has appeared on over 18 recordings.  He is an accomplished arranger, composer, and band leader having led groups for over 30 years.
