How much do you charge?
Our rates vary based on the location of the gig, the number of hours, the number of musicians, and the amount of equipment we need to provide. We typically range between $300 and $3000. Click here to get a free quote.
Do you offer charity discounts?
Absolutely! We do lots of fundraisers for qualifying charities and can usually offer 20-40% off our normal rates. However, we don't play for free.
Do you have your own sound system?
Yes. We have a 500 watt PA system including a 16 channel digital mixer that works great for small and medium sized venues. For large venues, you may want to hire a professional sound company. We can recommend several.
Do you have stage lights?
Yes, we have two wireless LED stage lighting strips. They work great for lighting up a dark stage. However, they are not intended for large venues.
Do you travel?
Yep! We have driven to gigs in neighboring states and flown across the US. We are happy to travel anywhere in the world! It helps with baggage fees if you can lend us local equipment, though.
Do you always book a sextet?
No. Many gigs don't have room (or the budget) for the full group. We often book trios, quartets, and quintets. For public performances, we try to identify what size band to expect on our Tour page.
Do you work with Lannie Garrett?
Yes! Lannie has a show specifically written for us called Swing Sets: Benny, Basie, and Beyond! It's a fantastic show you will love! If you would like to book her with us, you need to contact her directly here.
Do you play for weddings?Absolutely! We have done nearly 200 weddings and wedding receptions. This music is perfect for setting that romantic mood! We can do Classical music for the ceremony too. We've done lots of Jewish wedding receptions as well. Denver Party Bus has a great article about about how to choose a great band, featuring yours truly! Check it out!
What about anniversaries, birthdays, funerals and other events?Yes we do play for just about any occasion.
Can you play any rock and roll?
No. Our specialty is jazz, swing, latin jazz, and blues. We don't play any Motown, Rock, Pop, Country, Funk, Calypso, or Rap. Our music was America's popular music in the 1920's, 30's, 40's, and 50's. Although we know thousands of tunes, you can click here for a sampling of what we do.
Are those iPads on stage?
Yes! We use iPads to store and view some 10,000 pages of music. They are all linked together so Roger can pull up songs quickly for the entire band. Plus, no more stand lights or clothes pins. It's amazing technology! We also use an iPad for all our CD sales. You can even sign up to be on our e-mail list via our iPad. Just visit our CD table at any gig to check it out.
How much power do you need?
That depends on what equipment we are using. We typically recommend 1 dedicated 15 or 20 amp outlet. However, we draw far less if we don't need PA.
Do you require contracts?
Yes. We have a standard contract that we like to use, but can use yours if you prefer.
What about a deposit?
For most gigs, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit at least 90 days before the gig. The balance is due at the gig.
What is your rider?
E-mail us and we'll be glad to send it to you as part of our stage map.
Do you mind if we audio or videotape your performance?
Yes we do mind. There are a number of legal complications with recording this music, not only for the musicians but also the original composers and arrangers. We can make written exceptions for non-commercial use if you request in advance. Otherwise, buy a CD here and please leave your recording equipment home.
Do you have any videos for sale?
No, not yet. We are still weighing the costs and benefits of a full fledged DVD production. We do have a number of videos on You Tube which you can find here.
Why don't you play my favorite song?
Let us know what it is and we'll do our best to play it for you. We love requests! Even if we don't know it, we'll play another song with a lot of the same notes!
What is a Vibraphone?
It's a lot like bells or marimba, but has vibrato when you hit the metal bars.
What is that thing on Roger's Clarinet?
It is a clip-on microphone specifically designed for the Clarinet by AMT. The instrument is particularly difficult to amplify due to the unique nature of the tone holes and significant numbers of overtones. Many professionals are using this microphone to free themselves from cables and mic stands.
What happened to After Midnight Gift Cards?
For about 5 years, we sold The Complete Collection download cards. Fans used them to download up to 10 songs of anything we have recorded directly to their computer. They expired on 12/31/2012 and are no longer available. Instead, you can download songs from iTunes or CD Baby or lots of other web sites. Just search for us on your favorite! Or you can click here to buy a physical CD.
